Here's what you should know before working

with the Food Mood Therapists

  • What is your rate?

Our rate is $150.00 per session. Sessions are 45-60 minutes unless otherwise specified.

  • What if I cannot afford your rate?

Each clinician in our practice has a limited number of negotiated rate spots. If you do not think you can afford the full fee, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

If we're unable to offer you a negotiated rate spot, I’d be happy to offer referrals to trusted clinicians in the area.

If you’re hoping to find an in-network provider, Psychology Today is a great resource.

  • Can I use out of network benefits?

In some cases you may be eligible to use out-of-network insurance benefits. You will be responsible for paying for each session in full at time of appointment. If appropriate, we will provide a super bill each month so that you can submit it to your insurance company for reimbursement.

  • How much will I pay for therapy using out of network benefits?

If you have out-of-network benefits, they typically will reimburse you for 60-80% of the cost of each session.

If appropriate, I will provide you with monthly invoices called a “super bill” that will include all of the necessary information for your claims to be processed.

For the most detailed information, it is recommended that you call the number for member services listed on the back of our insurance card.

  • How do I use my out of network benefits?

Out-of-network benefits are generally straightforward to use. Most insurance companies will request that you upload a monthly superbill and then they will mail you a check with your reimbursement.

It’s a good idea to call the number on the back of your health insurance card listed under Member Services.

You can ask them the following questions:

    • Do I have out-of-network outpatient mental health coverage? Am I able to use these benefits for telehealth?
    • What is my out-of-network deductible?
    • How much of my deductible has been met this year?
    • Do I need a referral from an in-network provider to see someone out-of-network?
    • What percentage of outpatient psychotherapy sessions are covered per session?
    • How much will I be reimbursed for a 45 minute psychotherapy session (CPT code: 90834)?
    • How do I submit claim forms for reimbursement?
    • How long does it take for me to receive reimbursement?
  • Do you take health insurance?

We don't accept health insurances however, we do accept FSA & HSA payments. You may wish to check with your insurance provider regarding "Out of Network" benefits. Lastly, when avaialble, we offer negotiated rates.

  • Is the consultation free and what's it about?

Yes, the consultation is free and will last 15-20 minutes with the purpose to determine if we're going to be a good fit to work together.

Should we be a good fit, we'll scheudle our first appintment and you will be sent the new client forms to complete.

If we're not a good fit and at your request, we'd be happy to provide you with referrals to other clinicans with whom you may be a good fit for.

  • Which states do you work in?

Our clinicians are licened in Kansas and Missouri, with our office located in Kansas City, Missouri. We can work with any one in these two states. As we onboard more providers, we may be able to expand network. Please check with your individual provider for more details.

  • What are the first few therapy sessions like?

The first session is considered the intake or assessment session. This session is at least a hour long. Your therapist will ask you a lot of questions during this session to obtain a better picture of your life and conceptualize the problem you're facing.

The next session, you and your therapist will set treatment goals, objectives and interventions. In other words, you and your therapist will make an initial treatment plan. The sessions after the treatment planning session are considered treatment sessions. You and your therapist will not only get to work on the treatment plan but handle anything else that may come up in your day-to-day life.

Every session is unique and your therapist is deticated to building the porofessional relationship, treating your with respect and showing you empathy and compassion. Moreover, therapy is meant to help you gain new insight, to challenge your thinking and help you solve problems. At times, therapy will be challenging and other times it will be a lot of fun. At the end of the day, your therapist is here to support you, help you gorow and seek the change you're looking for.

  • How often will we meet for sessions?

It is recommended that that you see your therapist weekly to start for about six weeks. This helps to get the ball rolling. Now, dpending on how symptoms develop, your life changes and your personal growth, your therapist may recommend that you increase or decrease the frequency of sessions to best meet your needs.

  • How long does treatment last?

The length of treatment is different for each person and is determined by various factors e.g. symptom severity and frequency, financial capacity, life circumstances, treatment plan etc. On average, clients will tend to have 16-32 sessions before treatment ends. In some instances, you may wish to have infrequent sessions after treatment ends for ongoing support. We support this after a conversation with your therapist.

  • Are sessions in-person or online?

Therapy sessions are generally in person however, telehealth is also an option. You and your provider will work out the details about your appointments.

  • What if I'm not ready to start therapy?

If you're not ready to start therapy, that's perfectly okay. We understand that there's a time and a place for everything. If you're not ready to start therapy you may wish to join the Mental Health Jumpstart.
